Bodega Bay

The closest beach is perfectly adequate for wandering about.

A good coast needs a striking rise in the earth to counter it. Beaches with mountains in the distance, or cliffs that hang off endlessly. It limits your view in the most dramatic way possible, in a way that is inviting and aesthetically pleasing. All you see is a narrow strip of beach, one that begs you to wander through it.

Bodega Bay has that, sure the beaches farther down the coast are warmer and the sand more finer. The beaches more north offer even more of the wide gaps between ocean and earth, but for being close by one can easily spend the day walking around. Have a picnic, check out the trails...etc.

Flying kites, fishing, and crabbing seem to be quite popular options.

Just remember its windy and cold so bring a fairly substantial jacket. Also there are some restaurants and stores nearby but you would do well to pack your own food and drinks.

There are main beaches and some smaller beaches as well. The entirety of the bay is fairly intimate as far as beaches go...away from the populations in the Bay Area and Santa Cruz there is more space to freely wander.

I personally spent the afternoon just wandering from beach to beach with a brief lunch.

You can always take advantage of recreational activities like surfing, hiking or camping but even a day-trip here is worth it. The sharp scenery and intimate beaches allow one to wander and explore for a refreshing few hours of worry-free contemplation.
